Active Adult Centre

Formerly known as Square One Older Adult Centre (SOOAC)

The Active Adult Centre is a charitable organization funded by the municipal government. It’s aim is to enrich the lives of Mississauga’s seniors by keeping them active, independent, and involved in the community. The centre is focused on keeping seniors age 50+ engaged by offering a colourful range of over 80 weekly social, recreational, health and multicultural programs.

The centre was established in 1992 thanks to a group of concerned citizens who wanted to help maintain a high quality of life in the aging community. Since it’s inception, it has become a central hub for the elderly community, and currently has over 1,700 active members.

AACM offers its members opportunities to meet and connect through Community Cafe Dinners, Choices and Voice’s Luncheons, twice weekly licensed Bingo, day-trips to destinations such as Ripley’s Aquarium, and overseas trip to Europe and Asia. Programs include, Co-ed Fitness classes, Zumba, Stretch & Meditation Sessions, Toning and Tai Chi Classes. In addition, for those managing knee, hip and balance issues, impact-free muscle building classes include Chair-exercise, as well as Sit & Dance.

This friendly centre is open seven days a week and is home to seven different cultural older adult groups and clubs. For over 25 years the AACM has been meeting the diverse social and educational needs of its members through a range of affordable, accessible and stimulating programs that strengthen the body, enliven the mind and awaken the spirit.
